A giant leap to the state meet

Wednesday, May 7, 2008 9:27 AM CDT

The SoBoCo Eagles girls track team had their best showing of the season, placing third at the district meet on Saturday.

The Eagles boys and girls qualified two boys relays and Jacob White in the 800 and 400 meter runs.

The girls qualified a pair of relays as well as individual athletes Kristin Austin, Rebeca Barajas and Hannah Sprague.

"The girls team qualified someone in every sprint event for the finals," said coach Crystal Branch. "We had a very good day."

Branch emphasized that although large numbers of athletes did not qualify for sectionals, many had their best performance of the year.

"We had athletes like Scott Jose who had a personal record in throwing events - he had a very good day and you can't ask for more than that from your kids," Branch said.

The Eagles boys finished in ninth place at the Blair Oaks meet. The sectionals will be held this weekend and the state meet in Jefferson City on the following week.
