SoBoCo soccer team to face Springfield Catholic

The Southern Boone soccer team will take on Springfield Catholic on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Waynesville in a quarterfinalmatchup. The winner will advance to the Final Four.

The Eagles are the only public school of the eight remaining teams in Class 1 soccer.

Other games include: St. Vincent vs. Lutheran North; Barstow vs. St. Pius X; Whitfield vs. Trinity Catholic.

Eagles coach Chris Miller has seen Springfield Catholic play twice this year, including their 7-1 district title win.

"They are a very good team, but I we won't do anything special for them," Miller said. "It would be unfair to the girls on our team to ask them to play a comletely different game than what we have worked to hard to do this season. We will go there and play hard and be who we are. We may tweak something here or there as we have for other teams, but we won't make any major changes."

The game will be played on artificial turf, which will speed up the game with the ball moving much faster. However, Eagles captain Tillie Bill said she was confident her teammates would pick up the game speed quickly.

"That is something you don't adapt to right away, but we have the benefit of having some fast players all around the field, so I think we will be able to adapt to a good team and playing on turf," Bill said.

There will be a Spirit Bus for SoBoCo students, free of charge, leaving the school parking lot at 3 p.m. (If 30 or more students sign up to attend the game). Students should call the high school office, 657-2144 to sign up for the bus.
